Privacy Policy for FarmNav

Welcome to the FarmNav app, provided by RAINDROP LLC. Our app is a subscription service that draws guidance lines for field work, helping you keep your passes straight and see what ground you have already covered. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of your information through the FarmNav app ("Service").

FarmNav is built to keep your data on your device. We do not operate an account system you can sign in to, and we never store your location coordinates, the boundaries you draw, or the paths you drive. Three things do leave your phone: the answer you give to the second question in the introduction, anything you write or choose in the feedback box, and a short summary — numbers and times only — of each job you record and each field you save. All three are described below. In addition, on a small sample of new installations on iPhones whose Region is set to the United States, the app records what is on its screen, which can include the map; that is described under "Screen Recordings" below.

By choosing to use our Service, you consent to the collection, use, and sharing of your personal information in accordance with this policy.

DEFINITIONS

"Personal Information" refers to any information that identifies or can be used to identify you, directly or indirectly.

"Service" refers to the FarmNav app, including all features and functionalities.

"We," "us," and "our" refer to RAINDROP LLC.

INFORMATION COLLECTION AND USE

We collect very little. Here is the complete picture.

Location Data

FarmNav reads your device's location while the app is open and on screen. It uses that location to draw your guidance line, show how far you are from your next pass, and paint the ground you have covered.

Your location coordinates are never transmitted to us and are never stored outside your device. They are used on the device, as you drive, and they are not uploaded, shared, sold, or retained on any server we control. One exception: if your installation is one of the few chosen for screen recording (see "Screen Recordings" below), a recording is a picture of the screen and can show the map with your position on it.

The app requests location access only for use while the app is in use. It does not request or use background location, and it does not track your position when the app is closed.

Types of Collected Information

- User Account Information: none. FarmNav has no accounts, no sign-up, and no login. We never ask for your name, your email address, or your phone number. The one place you can volunteer any of it is the support chat, if you choose to write it in a message so that we can reply another way. Nothing in the app requires it, and nothing is prefilled for you.

  When you answer the second question in the introduction, the app asks Google's Firebase Authentication for an anonymous installation identifier: a random string with no name, email address or password attached, and nothing to sign in to. Its only purpose is to give your answer a place to sit so that answering twice updates one record rather than creating two. It is created at that moment and not before, so an installation that never answers the question never gets one. Deleting the app discards it, and reinstalling makes a new one.

- Field, Job, and Equipment Data: The fields you draw, the jobs you record, your implement widths, worked acreage, and coverage thumbnails are saved in the app's private storage on your device. The boundaries themselves, the paths you drive, the names you give your fields, and any notes you write stay there and are never sent anywhere as data. They can appear on screen in a screen recording, described below.

  A summary of each job and each field is stored on our servers, filed under the anonymous installation identifier described above. For a job that is when it started and finished, how long it ran, how far you travelled, how many square metres you covered, your implement width, how many passes it took, and whether you wrote a note — never what the note said. For a field it is when you created it, its area and perimeter, how many corners its boundary has, whether you show it on the Drive map, and whether you wrote details for it.

  No coordinate of any kind is included in either. Area and perimeter are measurements of size and say nothing about location, so none of this tells us where you are, where your ground is, or where you have driven. It exists so we can see how much the app is actually being used, which is not something we can otherwise know. If you delete a job or a field on your device, its summary is deleted from our servers too.

- Analytics Data: FarmNav includes Google Analytics for Firebase, and it is used to see where people get stuck and which parts of the app people use. It records: which page of the introduction you reached, which answers you gave to the two questions the introduction asks, that you were asked for location or notification access (during the introduction or after your trial starts) and whether you allowed it, that you reached the subscription screen (which version of it you saw, which plan it offered, and whether that plan had a free trial), that you started a purchase (and, if the plan had failed to load when the app opened, whether loading it again worked) and whether it went through, failed (with the store's error code) or was cancelled, and the plan and its price, that a trial or subscription began, and whether your subscription is in its trial, paid, or set not to renew. It also records when you use the app's main features: that a job was started (and whether an A-B line or field guidelines were in use) or finished, that an A-B line was set, that a field was saved, and that field guidelines were opened (and which kind). A finished job is recorded only with a rough size range (for example "1 to 5 acres") and a rough length of time (for example "15 to 60 minutes"); a saved field only with a rough size range. Google Analytics also records its standard automatic events, such as when the app is first opened and when a session starts.

  It does not record your GPS location, the shape or name of any field, anything you draw, or anything you type. It is not tied to your name or your email address, because we do not have either — the events are attached to a random identifier generated on your device for this installation of the app, and reinstalling the app generates a new one.

- Crash and Error Data: FarmNav includes Sentry, and it is used for one purpose: to tell us when the app has crashed or failed at something, so we can fix it. It is not analytics and it does not record what you do. Nothing is sent unless something goes wrong.

  When something does go wrong it sends the technical description of the fault — the error message and the internal stack trace naming the parts of the app involved — together with your device model, your operating system version, the app version, and whether this was a development, test or App Store build. Where a saved file could not be read or written, it sends the name of the operation that failed, such as "saveFields". It sends the name of the operation, never its contents.

  It does not record your location, your fields, your jobs, your equipment, your acreage, or anything you draw. Sentry does not take screenshots or record the screen. It is not tied to your name or your email address, because we do not have either, and it is deliberately configured not to attach any installation identifier — so a crash report is not linked to you or to your other crash reports.

- Screen Recordings: On a few phones, FarmNav records its own screen using a service called PostHog, so we can see where people get stuck when they first use the app — for example while setting up their first job, or on the subscription screen — and make those parts easier.

  It records only some installations. Your iPhone's Region setting must be the United States, and of those installations only a sample of new ones is chosen (currently about one in eight), once, when the app is first opened. On a chosen installation it records at most the first two times you use the app, and at most 15 minutes each time. Every other installation is never recorded. Nothing is shown on screen while it records.

  A recording is a series of pictures of the app's screen, taken about once a second, together with where you tapped. It can show anything the app shows: the map and satellite imagery, your position on it, field outlines, the names of your fields and equipment, and the subscription screen. Anything you type is hidden in the recording, and recording pauses while the keyboard is open. It does not record the support chat, a job while it is running or paused, or Apple's purchase sheet.

  The recording is sent with basic device details: model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, screen size, and whether the phone is on Wi-Fi or mobile data. PostHog may also work out an approximate location (country and city) from your IP address; it does not keep the address itself. FarmNav has asked PostHog to switch this lookup off. It is filed under a random identifier generated for this installation, and it is not linked to your subscription, to the anonymous identifier described above, to the support chat, or to anything else we hold. It is not used for advertising or tracking. Recordings are deleted after 30 days.

- Introduction Survey Answer: the introduction asks what you will use FarmNav for, and offers six choices — spraying, fertilizing, planting, mowing, tillage or other. The only thing saved is which one you tapped.

- Feedback You Write: once, after you finish a job, FarmNav asks how it is working out and gives you a box to type in. Whatever you type and send is saved. The box is shown at most once, whether or not you use it, and you will not be asked again.

  Above the box there are also a few short reasons you can tap instead of, or as well as, typing — such as the GPS position not being accurate enough, or the price. If you tap one and send, which reason you chose is saved, as a short code rather than as words; nothing else about it is.

  Because this is a box rather than a list, it holds whatever you decide to put in it. We do not ask for your name, your email address, your phone number or your location, and we would rather you did not include them — but if you type them, they are saved, because we have no way to know what a message contains before it arrives. Please treat it the way you would treat sending us a note: do not put anything in it you would not want us to have.

  Your message is stored in one place and one place only — the record described below. It is not sent to Google Analytics, to Sentry, to Meta, or to the support chat.

- Whether You Were Asked: so that we can tell how many people we asked from how many replied, the record described below also notes that the feedback box was shown to you, the time it was shown, whether you sent anything, whether you closed it, and whether you went on to open the support chat. This means a record is created for you when the box appears, even if you close it without typing anything — in that case the record holds those facts and nothing else. It does not hold your location, your fields, your jobs, or anything you typed, because you did not type anything.

- All of the above go into a single record in Google Cloud Firestore, a database we run, filed under the anonymous installation identifier described above. Alongside your answers the record holds the version of the app you were using, whether the app was a development, test or App Store build, and the relevant times.

  This record exists so we can build the features the people who actually use the app need. It is also the only place your answers are counted: we do not report your use of the feedback box to Google Analytics or to anyone else.

  It holds none of your location, your field boundaries, your coverage paths, or anything you draw — those are never sent to us as data (a screen recording, described above, can show them as pictures). The job and field summaries described further above are stored separately, under the same anonymous identifier, and they too contain no coordinates. Answering either question again replaces that previous answer rather than adding a second record.

- Advertising Measurement Data: FarmNav includes the Meta (Facebook) software development kit, and it is used for one purpose: to tell us whether the ads we run for FarmNav actually bring people to the app. It reports a small, fixed list of milestones to Meta — that the app was installed, that it was opened, that you finished the introduction, and that a free trial or a subscription began. Subscription events include the amount and currency.

  It never sends your location, your fields, your jobs, your equipment, or anything you draw or record in the app. There is no advertising inside FarmNav, and we do not use any of this to build a profile of you.

  On first launch iOS will ask whether FarmNav may track you. If you say no, no advertising identifier is shared, and Apple's aggregated measurement reports the same milestones to Meta without identifying your device. Saying no changes nothing about how the app works, and you can change your mind at any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Tracking.

Third-Party Services

Eight parties are involved in running the Service, and each is limited to what it needs:

- RevenueCat manages your subscription. It receives a device-generated identifier and your App Store purchase receipt so it can confirm whether your subscription is active. It does not receive your name, your email address, your location, or your field data. Privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

- Apple processes your subscription purchase and holds the record of it. We never see or handle your payment details. Privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

- Expo (EAS Update) delivers app updates. When you open the app it checks for an update, which means Expo's servers see your device's IP address and basic device details such as platform and app version. Privacy policy: https://expo.dev/privacy

- Crisp powers the support chat. It is used only if you open that chat, and nothing is sent to it until you do. After you answer the improvement question described above, the app offers to open the chat so you can say more in your own words; that offer sends nothing by itself, and declining it sends nothing. If you do open it, the choice you tapped is attached to the conversation so we know what you are writing about. A chat session carries whatever you type in it, along with your app version, build number, and platform, so that support does not have to ask you for them. It does not receive your name, your email address, your location, or your field data — the app has no account to attach a chat to, so a conversation is identified only by the device it was started on. - Meta Platforms measures our advertising. It receives the milestone events described above, along with your device's IP address and, only if you allow tracking, your device's advertising identifier. It does not receive your name, your email address, your location, or your field data — we do not collect those in the first place. Privacy policy: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy

- Google measures how the app is used, through Google Analytics for Firebase. It receives the introduction, subscription and app-use events described above, along with your device's IP address and basic device details such as model, operating system version and language. It does not receive your name, your email address, your precise location, or the shape, name or location of your fields — we do not collect those in the first place. FarmNav is configured so that Google does not receive your device's advertising identifier.

  Google also hosts two further services for us. Firebase Authentication issues the anonymous installation identifier described above. Cloud Firestore holds the record described above. In both cases Google is storing the data on our behalf; it receives nothing beyond what is described in those two entries. Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

- Sentry receives the crash and error reports described above, along with your device's IP address, which its servers see because the report is sent over the internet. It does not receive your name, your email address, your location, or your field data — we do not collect those in the first place. It is storing these reports on our behalf, and receives nothing beyond what is described in that entry. Privacy policy: https://sentry.io/privacy/

- PostHog stores the screen recordings described above, on servers in the United States, on our behalf. It receives those recordings and the device details listed there. Its servers see your device's IP address because the recording is sent over the internet. PostHog may use the address to work out an approximate country and city for the recording, and our PostHog project is set not to keep the address itself. FarmNav has asked PostHog to switch this lookup off. It does not receive your name, your email address, or your location coordinates, and it receives nothing beyond what is described in that entry. Each of these parties is required to provide the same or equal protection of user data as is stated in this policy.

USE OF YOUR INFORMATION

We use the limited information described above to:

- Draw guidance lines, calculate your distance from the next pass, and record coverage, all computed on your device.
- Confirm whether your subscription is active, so the app knows to unlock.
- Deliver app updates and fixes.
- Find out when the app has crashed or failed to save something, so we can fix it before it costs someone else a day's records.
- Answer you, if you write to us in the support chat or by email.
- Measure whether our advertising works, so we know which ads are worth running.
- Watch a small sample of screen recordings to see where people get stuck, so we can make the app easier to use.

We do not use your information to build a profile of you, to show you ads inside FarmNav, or to make decisions about you.

SHARING YOUR INFORMATION

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade your personal information with third parties except as disclosed in this policy. We do not hold your location coordinates or your field data, so we could not share them even if we were asked to. A screen recording can show them as pictures; recordings are kept by PostHog for 30 days and are not shared with anyone else.

DATA SECURITY

Your field, job, and equipment data is stored in the FarmNav app's private storage area on your device, which iOS isolates from other apps and protects with the device's own encryption. The data itself never leaves your device, so it is not exposed to a server breach.

Two things are stored on servers. The first is the Firestore record described above. It is sent over an encrypted connection to Google Cloud Firestore and stored in the United States, where our security rules allow each installation to reach only its own record and allow no one to list the collection. It holds nothing that identifies you.

The second applies only if your installation is one of the few chosen for screen recording. Those recordings can show your fields and the map as pictures. They are sent over an encrypted connection to PostHog, stored in the United States, and deleted after 30 days.

Your subscription status is handled by Apple and RevenueCat over encrypted connections.

YOUR RIGHTS

Because FarmNav holds no account, and because what we store on servers is anonymous, you are in direct control of your data:

- Delete your data: Deleting individual fields and jobs inside the app removes them. Deleting the app from your device removes all remaining FarmNav data held on the device, and discards the anonymous installation identifier, so nothing further is ever written.

  That record is the one thing that outlives the app, apart from any screen recordings, which are deleted 30 days after they are made. Being honest about what that means: it holds the choice you tapped, which feedback reason you tapped (if any), anything you typed into the feedback box, whether the box was shown and what you did with it, the app version, the build type and timestamps, filed under a random string that is discarded with the app — so once the app is gone, neither we nor anyone else can connect that record to you or pick it out from anyone else's. That is the same property that makes it anonymous and the reason we cannot locate an individual record on request. If you would like yours removed before deleting the app, contact us at the address below and we will tell you how to find its identifier.

  Screen recordings are filed under a random identifier that nothing else we hold is linked to, so we cannot find yours on request either. They are deleted automatically after 30 days.

- Revoke location access: Turn off location for FarmNav at any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Location Services. The app will continue to open, and will tell you that guidance needs location to work.

- Manage your subscription: View, change, or cancel it in your Apple Account settings. Refund requests go to Apple.

- Ask us anything: For questions about your data, contact us at the address below.

COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES

The FarmNav app does not use cookies.

FarmNav does ask for permission to track, using Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, and the reason is narrow: with your permission, the Meta software described above may use your device's advertising identifier to tell that an ad you saw led to you installing FarmNav. That is the whole of it. We do not follow you across other apps or websites, we do not sell or share your data with data brokers, and there is no advertising inside FarmNav.

If you decline, the app behaves exactly the same and no advertising identifier is shared. You can change the answer at any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Tracking.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Our Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under this age. If we learn of any such collection, we will promptly delete the information.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this policy periodically. We will notify you of any significant changes and encourage you to review this policy regularly.
