# RainDrop > RainDrop provides hyper-local, historical rainfall and precipitation totals for any location in the 48 contiguous United States. It answers the question "how much rain actually fell here?" for a specific address, field, or coordinate — not just the nearest airport. RainDrop is available as a free consumer mobile app (iOS and Android) and as a developer REST API. RainDrop derives rainfall totals by combining data from 180 NOAA Doppler radars, more than 10,000 ground rain gauges, and satellite observations, using scientific models to produce hyper-localized estimates. The RainDrop API exposes point-level historical precipitation accurate to within 0.05 inches at 1 km resolution, with an archive spanning January 2015 to the present (11+ years), plus real-time intensity, forecasts, snowfall, and PRISM 30-year climate normals. Coverage is limited to the contiguous United States. Rainfall is highly spatially variable — a single storm can drop an inch on one field and miss the next — so a reading from a weather station miles away is often wrong for a specific spot.
